Adding & Subtraction Decimals Christmas Math Activity
Get some sneaky mental math decimal revision in this December with these cracking Christmas Decimals Adding & Subtracting Cracker Puzzles!
Your kids will love practicing using their mental math strategies to add and subtract these decimals to 1DP. These puzzles are in B&W and perfect for printing on coloured card. Once laminated they can be used in your math centers or a whole class game!
We like to make kids feel less anxious about math so we decided to make this decimal puzzles into a lucky dip game!
✅First we Printed the puzzles onto coloured card. They’re Black and White so you don’t need any coloured ink for this one!
✅Next we placed the puzzle pieces onto a popstick. We used 2 colours so the kids could pick an answer and a question at random. We put questions on red and answers on green.
✅Then we stuffed a Christmas box with pompoms & shredded paper to make our lucky dip box… you can use whatever you like for this! and placed the puzzles face down in the box so that the kids couldn’t see what they were pulling out.
✅The kids played in pairs or at a center and took it in turns to pull out 2 sticks per go, one red, one green. If the answer matched the question they got to keep the stick.
✅They recorded their answers on the recording sheet and checked it with a calculator!
✅It was a much nicer way to practice mental maths for the kids and they really enjoyed it!
