Teaching Non-Standard measurement helps students learn how to measure. Unfortunately non-standard measurement is a concept can either be taught badly or missed out altogether because teachers do not really understand what it is or why they are teaching it. Sadly non-standard measurement lessons often become counting lessons rather than a lesson about how to measure. It is an important foundation and precursor to ‘REAL MEASUREMENT’ and it appears in the Australian Curriculum in the Foundation Years, Year 1 & Year 2. Download our free Measurement Cheat Sheet to learn more about it when teaching numeracy.
